An invitation into deeper connection…

Dear Friends,

I sat on my back step recently, watching the water as the sky turned the softest pink. The trees along the bank were thick and shadowed, holding onto the last of the night, and I almost missed her: a heron, tucked low near the shoreline, half-hidden by mist rising off the water. Still. Unhurried. Simply there.

I lingered. There was nothing to do but watch her, and something in that stillness met something in me.

So much of our suffering comes from disconnection, from ourselves, from each other, from something greater. And yet, reconnection isn't far off or mystical. It's available, quietly, in the present moment, the way that heron was that morning, the way the pink sky was, the way my own heart was, when I was willing to slow down enough to notice.

That kind of stillness, it turns out, is something so many of us are hungry for. I hear echoes of this from many people: "I feel disconnected from my heart. I know it matters, I just don't know where to begin."

Often, what stands between us and that connection is a brain and nervous system doing their best to keep us safe, and a heart that's been waiting patiently beneath it all, the way that heron waited in the stillness that morning, unbothered, simply present.

Learning to work with our hearts, rather than around them, can help us find our way back. Back to an inner knowing that's been there all along. Back to who we are, at our core. Back to love as our foundation.

If you're willing, here's a small practice to try this week.

Find a quiet moment, maybe first thing in the morning, or wherever you can pause. Place a hand over your heart. Let it rest there. Breathe slowly and deeply… find a comfortable, steady rhythm, and simply notice… what's here right now? No need to fix or change anything. Simply presence, meeting presence… the way that heron met me in the stillness of the morning.

You might ask yourself gently, "What does my heart know that I haven't been listening to?" And then let the answer come, or not come, without any pressure either way.

May you find a few quiet moments this week to come back to your own heart.

With love and care,

Jennifer
